Living with and beyond cancer

cobrand logo panel WC LIGHT CMYK_C PARTNERSHIPThe University of Lincoln and Macmillan Cancer Support formally agreed collaboration in November 2013, focusing on cancer survivorship. The collaboration is only the second of its kind between Macmillan, the UK’s largest cancer care and support charity, and a university.

As part of the agreement, the University of Lincoln has developed accredited education and training courses for health and social care professionals. The first of these is our Survivorship programme. On this module, there will be speakers from Macmillan Cancer Support and from other disciplines such as Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy and Social Care to ensure that the module is offered to inter-professional groups and delivered by inter-professional groups.

In terms of research, MH2aSC has initaited a series of Macmillan funded studies exploring the social and supportive care needs of people affected by cancer and their carers. Further investment from the charity came in the appointment of a full time Macmillan Research Fellow in October 2015.

The largest study is being developed by David Nelson (MH2aSC Research Assistant and Macmillan Fellow) who is exploring self-management in people living with and beyond cancer following treatment. The research aims to investigate the barriers and facilitators to self-management in a rural and urban setting.
